The University of Nevada, Reno has found an unorthodox solution to its student housing problem.

A gas explosion in July forced the college to close down two of its biggest halls of residence. With just six weeks to find rooms for 1,300 students, they agreed to lease a casino hotel from Eldorado Resorts’ Circus Circus and turn the rooms into college dorms.

College officials anticipated public backlash for the unusual move, but admitted that it wasn’t as severe as they expected. The refurbished hotel is situated at the end Reno’s main casino drag, approximately half a mile away from the main college campus.
